By joining BJJ Lifestyle Academy, members agree to uphold the culture, safety standards, and code of conduct outlined below. These standards exist to protect our students, families, and the integrity of our academy. All are required to sign this agreement before joining.

Respect Is Non-Negotiable

We treat everyone with dignity — on and off the mats.

No bullying, harassment, gossip, or slander.
Respect rank, experience, and beginners alike.
Online behavior reflects on the team.

Safety Comes Before Ego

We protect training partners above winning rounds.

Tap early, release immediately.
No cranking submissions.
Communicate injuries and limitations.
Coaches have final say in sparring intensity.

Leave Your Ego at the Door

Training is for growth, not proving dominance.

Help lower belts improve.
Accept correction without defensiveness.
No retaliation rolls.

Loyalty & Team Integrity

We build each other up — not tear each other down.

Address concerns privately with coaches.
No gossip chains or rumor spreading.
Support teammates at competitions.

Professional Boundaries

The academy is a structured, professional environment.

No unsolicited sales or promotions.
Respect coach authority and decisions.
Private issues handled privately.

Accountability

Violations of these standards may result in warnings or removal from the academy.

Standards apply to everyone equally.
Repeated issues may lead to termination of membership.

About Coach Rethmeyer

Coach Rethmeyer’s passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu began in Brazil as a young teenager. Today, he is one of the most experienced and highly regarded instructors in the area, with over three decades of training and competition experience. He holds the rank of 4th Degree Black Belt under Leo Peçanha, who is widely regarded as one of the top athletes in the sport, having won the CBJJO World Cup (2003 & 2004), the IBJJF European Open (2006), and the IBJJF Pan Championship (2012).

Coach Rethmeyer’s accomplishments in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are nothing short of impressive himself. He is a 20-time medalist in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) and has consistently demonstrated his mastery of the art. As a black belt, Professor Mike has won several prestigious titles, including 1st Place at the Pan-American Championship, 3rd Place at the World Championship, and 7-time International Open Champion.

With his experience, skill, and dedication to the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Coach Rethmeyer is an exceptional instructor and mentor for students of all levels.
